Sterling Gates

The seasoned Oklahoma screenwriter joins us at the table

Sterling Gates is an accomplished television writer known for adapting comic books to the small screen and most recently as the director of the award-winning Just the Janitor, an Oklahoma film with our very own PJ Sosko in the titular role.

Much like the radioactive spider bit Spiderman, Sterling was bitten by the comics bug early, and later emerged from his parents’ comic book store in Tulsa, OK with the ideal mix of arcane comic book knowledge and passion for the genre. He tells us about how that led to writing comic books as well as screenwriting for the CW TV series The Flash and Supergirl.

He shares his early lessons, how he got to work on major television series with some of his favorite characters and later came back to Oklahoma to direct an ambitious short film complete with 50+ child extras and fight choreography including 6 stunt performers.

What advice does he have for aspiring screenwriters? What’s next for Sterling? Have a listen and find out!
